COVID-19 caused by SARS-CoV-2 first emerged in China in Dec 2019. The disease has spread to countries around the globe and caused an ongoing pandemic. In this presentation, our eminent speakers will brief about the use of RT-PCR assays for detecting COVID-19 patients. They will discuss various technical aspects and current challenges in laboratory approach to detect SARS-CoV-2 at early stage and identify the super-spreaders. Speakers will also share their findings deduced from COVID-19 patients, in terms of disease severity and virus shedding pattern.
 
Prof. Poon will highlight the strategy used for detecting or screening COVID-19 cases in Hong Kong. Prof. Berg will focus on relevant clinical aspects of COVID-19 infection of particular interest to the clinician. This will include the typical & atypical presenting signs and symptoms, clinical course, treatment, etc. References to the recent peer-reviewed literature in the area will be highlighted to give a holistic view of COVID-19 trends emerging across the globe.
